The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal suffering. Chartered in 1888, we are the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state, providing care and basic medical services for thousands of homeless and unwanted animals each year. Our mission is to advocate for the animals of Louisiana by advancing their welfare, promoting their interests, and fostering the human/animal bond through innovative programs, education, and service.

We have just launched an exciting new public art project called Paws on Parade. Learn more here. If you or your company would like to sponsor a Paws on Parade Mardi Gras Bead Dog® please contact Dean Howard at dean@la-spca.org. You can view artist sketches of potential Mardi Gras Bead Dogs® here. And watch below on how to make a Mardi Gras Bead Dog®.

That night Hotel Monteleone is “Taking a Spin” for the LA/SPCA. If any AMA members want to join us for a cocktail at 6pm.

We hope you joined us at our 29th annual Dog Day Afternoon walk-a-thon & festival in New Orleans City Park (Roosevelt Mall) on Sunday, March 27th. Festivities included live music, specialty drinks, food from local restaurants, activities for children, dog contests and more!  This is the oldest and most well known dog festival in Louisiana. So whether the dogs simply romped and rolled in the grass, competed in the skill contests, or participated in the walk-a-thon, our furry canines were kings and queens for a day! Be sure to check it out next year!

Volunteer with the LA/SPCA! Work with people, animals, and for a great cause. Find out more here. And, of course, stay in touch with us and what we’re doing on Twitter (@laspca), Facebook and our YouTube channel!
